Our journey began over 30 years ago with a deep love for Southern cooking, passed down through generations of our family. Inspired by the comforting meals enjoyed around our grandmother's kitchen table, we set out to create a place where everyone can experience the warmth and hospitality of a true Southern home. We bring these treasured recipes to life using only the freshest ingredients.
 

Chef Michele Stewart, a native of Savannah, GA, has always been passionate about the culinary arts, and her dedication shines through in every dish she creates. Growing up, she spent countless hours in the kitchen with her grandmother, learning the secrets of traditional Southern cooking. These cherished family recipes, some of which have been handed down for over a century, form the backbone of our menu. Chef Michele infuses each dish with love and authenticity, ensuring that every bite transports you to a time when food was made with heart and soul.

Her menu is a celebration of Southern culinary traditions, featuring classics like buttermilk fried chicken, pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy, and shrimp and grits. Each dish is crafted with care, honoring the flavors and techniques that make Southern food so special. We also offer a variety of homemade sides, such as her famous creamy mac and cheese, collard greens, and cornbread, all made from scratch daily.
 

Our team is strengthened by the invaluable contributions of our business partner, Dee Hull, who brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the community. Having spent many years in local businesses, social groups, and charities, Dee understands the importance of community engagement and giving back. Her dedication to local causes and their extensive network within the community are helping shape Mama’s Downhome Kitchen into more than just a dining destination, but a cornerstone of the neighborhood.
